Building a Culture of Shared Knowledge

people with awards

At Kodality, we’re surrounded by talented people working on complex, meaningful projects. Surprisingly, for a long time, there wasn’t a great way to share all these experiences across teams. Good ideas would come and go. Clever solutions stayed locked inside project channels or one-on-one chats. We knew we were missing out — not just on the knowledge, but on the opportunity to bring people closer together.

That’s how the idea for Kodality Knowledge Sharing was born.

Long before it had a name, we had technical review meetings - small, casual, sometimes spontaneous. Back then, our entire company could fit around one table, and a single TV was all we needed to share ideas. It wasn’t fancy, but it worked — and it planted the seed for something bigger.

Humble beginnings

The first official Kodality Knowledge Sharing session started with a meeting between two teams. No big plan. No long prep. Just a few short presentations and a lot of open discussion about what everyone was building. It clicked immediately. People stayed longer than expected. Questions flew. Energy was high.

And then we decided: we can make it work for the whole company. But if Kodality Knowledge Sharing was going to last, we needed structure.

Building a rhythm

It became clear that keeping Knowledge Sharing alive would take real planning and ownership. We built a topic bank, where anyone could suggest or volunteer ideas. We created a system for hosting, timing, and documenting each session. We started keeping recordings, so even those who couldn’t attend live could still catch up. We also made sure our Tartu office colleagues could join in on the action through livestreams.

By the end of 2023, we closed out the year in style — with our first ever Knowledge Sharing Awards where the whole team was able to vote for their favourite presentations. But in 2024, we wanted to go even further.

Bridging the gap between offices

Kodality Knowledge Sharing had already become part of our culture, but it was time to raise the bar — especially for our colleagues in Tartu and those joining remotely. We upgraded our tech setup: new cameras, mics, streaming tools, even some lighting.

Was there a learning curve? Absolutely. But the goal was clear — to make every session feel special, whether you were sitting in the front row or watching from another city. Each session became more immersive. Themes, intros, even music. We weren’t just sharing knowledge — we were building an experience.

After wrapping up 2023, we kept the tradition going. In 2024, we brought it back — bigger, better, and with even more energy. The 2024 Awards Gala celebrated over 20 unique presentations and reminded us just how much knowledge, creativity, and passion lives inside our teams.

Sharing knowledge with the world

The next step felt natural. We had the content, the speakers, the recordings and the drive. What we didn’t have — yet — was a home for it all. So we built one. Knowledge Sharing’s visual identity was developed alongside Kodality’s brand redesign — from color scheme to website. And with that, Kodality Knowledge Sharing went public:

  • A hub on our website
  • A growing connection to our broader social media efforts

We love trying new things, and this was no exception. From internal sessions to a public platform on Youtube — we’re proud to say it’s all coming together.

Looking ahead

At its core, Kodality Knowledge Sharing was made for our people — to learn, to teach, to connect. But we believe that good ideas should travel, and we see real value in sharing both our knowledge and our culture beyond Kodality. Moving forward, we’re looking to bring in even more varied perspectives — including voices from outside the company.

And of course, none of this would be possible without our presenters. Thank you to everyone who’s shared a talk, sparked a conversation, or helped make Kodality Knowledge Sharing what it is today.
